Rauman Energia, Osuuskauppa Keula, and the City of Rauma are organizing the Lumen Light Art Event in Rauma from January 15 to 18, 2025. Playful light art installations can be admired daily in the city center from 5 PM to 10 PM. The event’s installations and map have been published at lumenrauma.fi.

This year, the light art event showcases 11 unique installations. Additionally, the program includes the official opening of a new Ice Park, Osuuskauppa Keula’s Ice Fest at the Ice Park, and Rauman Energia’s rest area in front of City Hall.

– The Lumen route offers fascinating sights for all ages. Visitors can explore the artworks during an evening stroll – even every night. Each location provides different experiences and sensations, explains producer Annukka Ketola.

Four International Works Featured

In the courtyard of Rauma Art Museum, visitors can experience Anna Meldrāja’s enchanting piece We are the Nature. Meldrāja, a Latvian artist, animates moving animals and other characters in this work.

Rauman Energia presents two British works as its main attractions. Submergence by the Squidsoup collective is installed in front of the Rauma City Theatre. This piece comprises thousands of hanging lights, creating impressions of presence and movement. Visitors can interact with both the physical and virtual elements of the installation.

Another British piece, Twist and Shine by Kaleider Limited, is a playful sculptural installation illuminating the City Hall courtyard. The glowing, flexible blocks invite visitors to reshape the artwork themselves.

At Tarvonsaari School, Slovak artist Gábor Szűcs presents Epidermis, an animated video mapping projection exploring the intricate and dynamic relationship between the human body and its surroundings.

Play and Movement Await Visitors

At Amarillo’s entrance, Osuuskauppa Keula features Mirror Owl, a sculptural light installation by Jere Suontausta crafted from recycled materials. The artwork’s sound echoes a reflective ambiance.

The Ice Fest, jointly organized by Keula and Mixa Oy, lights up the Ice Park with captivating displays on the ice, in the sky, and throughout the park.

Inside Tarvonsaari School, Niko Tiainen’s multi-channel installation DECOHERENCE plays with rhythm and sound.

– Decoherence refers to the loss of order in quantum mechanics. In this artwork, the term signifies the visual interplay of form and structure, Ketola explains.

The facade of the Old City Hall becomes a canvas for artist Satu Osmonen’s piece called ‘Tower’, inspired by drawings of the tower of Rauma’s Old City Hall.

Rauma Market Square transforms into a “Light Square,” featuring a labyrinth and illuminated swings, encouraging playful participation for both children and adults.

In Kitukränn, visual artist Mollu Heino’s Geometry of Comets installation includes five playful comet structures that visitors can peer into.

Finally, unique lanterns created by students from Rauma Lyseo Upper Secondary School illuminate the Conversation Park. This community art project showcases 100 different lanterns and is part of Lönnström Art Museum’s initiative, realized in collaboration with Rauma Lyseo Upper Secondary School, the City of Rauma’s Green Services, and Mixa Oy.
