Second Exercise – Narrow Lace With Six Bobbin Pairs

This lace is entirely made with full stitches. Finish with plaits. Make this exercise with Bockens 60/2 linen thread. You will need 6 bobbin pairs, that is 12 bobbins. Wind the threads on the bobbins, you will need about 2 metres of thread for one pair of bobbins.
Prepare the mynsteri according to the instructions in the course material.

Narrow lace with six bobbin pairs is what is known as connecting lace, which used to be used for tablecloths and collars. In the olden days, children had to make an elbow’s lenght (an old measuring term meaning about 59 cm) of this lace before they could go outside to play.

Narrow lace with six bobbin pairs is made with full stitches. Put three bobbin pairs on both starting pins. Place all of the pairs in the staring position by making a twist. Start from the pairs on the right pin. Make a full stitch with the two outermost pairs. Always tighten after a stroke. Leave aside the rightmost pair. Make a full stitch with the next two pairs, tighten. Move aside the three pairs on the right. Make a full stitch with the two pairs on the left. Leave aside the leftmost pair. Make a full stitch with the next two pairs.

The area outlined in red shows the starting point on the mynsteri and and lace. The area outlined in green is a one part of the pattern. Next is time to start on the pattern. Make a full stitch with the middle pairs. Move aside the three pairs on the left. Make a full stitch with the left and middle pairs of the right side. Put a pin in between the pair. Make a full stitch with the two rightmost pairs. Leave aside the rightmost pair. Seal the pin with a full stitch with the next two pairs. Move aside the three pairs on the right.

Now it is time to start working on the left side. Follow a similar guideline for the left side as you did on the right. Make a full stitch with the right and middle pairs of the left side. Put a pin in between the pair. Make a full stitch with the two leftmost pairs. Move aside the leftmost pair. Seal the pin with a full stitch with the next two pairs.

Now you have one part of the pattern. The next part of the pattern will be started by making a full stitch with the middle pairs. The video also shows the process from up close. The narrow lace with six bobbin pairs is finished with three plaits.
