Popular walking tours of Old Rauma
The best way to explore the unique area of Old Rauma is through a guided walking tour. Walking allows you to experience the atmosphere and notice the beautiful details of the area. The guide will lead the group through the narrow and winding alleys, sharing the history and present-day stories of this culturally and historically valuable area. The tour offers a journey into Rauma’s culture and past, taking you through the neighborhoods of sailors and craftsmen.
The popular public tours of Old Rauma are held on Wednesdays and Sundays from June 26 to August 25, 2024. On Wednesdays, the tour is in Finnish, and on Sundays, the tour is bilingual (Finnish/English). Tours start on Wednesdays at 5 PM and on Sundays at 11:30 AM from the Savila Tourist Information Office (Savilankatu 8).
The price for the 1,5-hour tour is 10 € per person. Children under 15 can join for free. Tickets can be purchased from the City of Rauma’s online store or from the Museum shop Kistupuad located at the Home Museum Marela (Kauppakatu 24).
Afternoon excursion to Sammallahdenmäki
The UNESCO World Heritage Site Sammallahdenmäki is a Bronze Age burial site set amidst beautiful forest nature. Along the trail that winds through the area, there are 36 different burial cairns.
At Sammallahdenmäki, your imagination can run wild. What was life like over 3000 years ago? On a guided walking tour, the guide will lead the group to the area’s historical cairns. Stories of Bronze Age life, traditions, religion, and burial practices enliven the tour.
The afternoon excursion to Sammallahdenmäki is organized on Thursdays from June 27 to August 22, 2024. The excursion includes a convenient bus ride from Rauma city center to Sammallahdenmäki, about an hour-long guided tour of the area, and return transportation to the city center. Departure is at 2 PM from the Rauma bus station’s charter platform (Tallikedonkatu 13), with a return by 4:15 PM at the latest.
The tour is bilingual (Finnish/English).
