History

In 1800 the plot belonged to the mademoiselle Haartman.

Fire insurance

The fire insurance was taken out by the sailor Fredrik Kaukola in 1877. There were three buildings on the plot, of which the residential building was located along Pohjankatu and on the eastern boundary of the plot. The building was of log construction, in good condition, built in the recent past. It was partially boarded up and painted with red paint. The roof was made of boards. There were ten rooms: two halls, four chambers, a kitchen, a baking room and a sauna, as well as a hallway and a porch. There were six tiled stoves and three hearths, one with an iron stove, a bread oven and a sauna oven.

The outbuilding, located at the rear of the property, on its western boundary, was partly built long ago, partly later. The building was unplastered and unpainted and had a pitched roof. The premises consisted of a wooden shed, a dormitory, two barns and a stable. In addition, opposite the barn building, on the eastern boundary of the property, was a detached, square-bottomed, log stable with a new, boarded latrine to the side. The latrine section was painted in red paint. The gate and part of the fence were also insured.

Modification drafts

There are two drawings of changes made by Arvo Tuomokoski in the autumn of 1906. The alteration was to the north end of the residential building, where there was a bakehouse, a sauna and a boardroom at the end of the building. The bakehouse and sauna were first to be turned into chambers, and a large stove, without a baking oven, was planned for the room next to the former bakehouse. A little later, however, it was decided to build a fireplace with a baking oven in the room. A small kitchen and hallway was made of logs to replace the hallway at the end of the house.

In 1910, changes were made to the exterior buildings. A small outbuilding at the back of the courtyard was to be demolished. A plot-wide outbuilding was built on the site, which was incorporated into the outbuilding on the western boundary of the plot. The shed on the eastern boundary was demolished.

In 1937, the building was converted from two chambers into two heating rooms. In 1958, the kitchen and chamber at the end of the street were to be connected to the adjoining utility room, which became the apartment’s kitchen. The old furnaces were dismantled, as the kitchen was equipped with a boiler. The two-roomed flat with kitchen was also fitted with a toilet.

In 1983, the residential building was extensively renovated and modified. All the rooms were combined into a single apartment, which also included a sauna, washrooms and a new kitchen. The porches were also renovated. The plans were drawn up by Markus Bernoulli.
