Old Rauma Foundation
Established in 1976
The purpose of the Old Rauma Foundation, established in 1976, is to preserve the culturally and historically valuable buildings of the Old Rauma district and its original milieu.
According to its charter, the Foundation is entitled to lend or donate the necessary capital for the repair or restoration of structures. When the Foundation makes a loan, interest subsidy or grant, it takes into account, inter alia, the priority of the repairs and restoration, the property owner’s wealth and the historical and townscape value of the property.
The Old Rauma Foundation has supported the restoration or rehabilitation of more than one hundred gates in Old Rauma and loaned funds for the restoration of hundreds of sites.
Grant for the maintenance and repair of gates
The Foundation’s practice has been to provide gate-keeping grants of 30% of the total cost.
In order to receive the grant, the applicant must contact the person responsible for the Old Rauma renovation project before starting the work and agree to supervise the implementation of the project.

- The wood surface shall be planed smooth. Planing may be done by machine, but the surface of the wood must not be left with a wavy surface.
- The timber shall be straight-edged. Rounded timber shall not be used.
- If screws are to be used, the screw heads should be covered, for example with wooden pegs.
- Metal parts should be treated so that they do not stand out shiny, for example by painting.
