The ultimate movie weekend, the Blue Sea Film Festival, will be held in Rauma for the 31st time from Agusut 22–25. This year, the festival’s theme highlights local expertise, with a lineup featuring over 50 exciting cinematic experiences.

The the,e country for 2024 is Denmark, with screenings of film’s such as Empire (2023), Miss Viborg (2021), Copenhagen Does Not Exist (2023) and Hold My Hand (2022). Other Nordic films in the program include Driving Mum (Iceland, 2022), Sick of Myself (Norway, 2022) and Kuinka kuolleita käsitellään (2024).

The Ikkuna Eurooppaan (the “window to Europe”) series features fiilms known from the Oscar raze, including Opettajainhuone (Saksa, 2023), Putoamisen anatomia (Ranska, 2023), The Zone of Interest (Iso-Britannia, Puola, USA, 2023).

The lineup also includes domestic feature films and documentaries, with more details available on the event’s website.

35 mm and 16 mm films in the program

A free, open-air screening will take place in the courtyard of Rauma Art Museum on Thursday, August 22 at 9:30 pm, showcasing the 35 mm film Il Postino (Italy, 1994).

Additionally, 16 mm films will feature works by Rauma’s own Jouko Nummela, as well as the screening of Panssarilaiva Potemkin (1925) on Kuuskajaskari Island on Sunday. Admission to these screenings is free.

During the weekend, you can also watch films from the Baltic Herring Short Film Competition. The finalists are listed at blueseafilmfestival.net/finalistit/.

Music complements the Film Festival

The Blue Sea Film Festival also includes a variety of side events. On Friday and Saturday evenings, you can enjoy local music by bands and artists such as Pläkkploosarit, Tuune Pauler, Sekslaatio, Raumlele Ukulele Band, Smoky Foundation, Anzu, Tero Suhonen, and R’n’R and OMG. These events are free of charge.
